"Today was a very special day for me as I got an opportunity to visit my alma mater, Loyola High School & Junior College, Pune, after 42 long years. This was a homecoming that filled my heart with a sense of fulfillment. Even after reaching various milestones in the corporate world, the recognition bestowed on by one’s School, teachers and peers is perhaps the gold standard of true success.
I spent some of the best years of my school life here from 1977 to 1981, appearing for the crucial HSC and SSC Boards. It was thus pure nostalgia walking down the corridors, the sports field where I practiced my cricket shots and the hall where I sparred with my peers in debate competitions. The visit to the chemistry lab was special considering it was the place that perhaps shaped my inclination towards Chemical Engineering later in life. The occasion brought forth a surge of memories of those incredible teachers who shaped our future and the lifelong friendships forged during the time at Loyola. This Institution and its nurturing ecosystem instilled the much-need confidence and self-esteem, and we were ready to take on the world. This is the hallmark of a great institution; it establishes strong roots that allow the branches of the tree to grow far and wide.
I was delighted to have a freewheeling chat with the young Loyolites. Their inquisitive questions held the hope and promise of youth, ready to make a difference in the world. The world is changing rapidly, and it is crucial for our young minds to find a balance between academics, extracurricular activities, and mental well-being. I encouraged them to set realistic goals, embrace their unique paths, and not to be disheartened by failures. I am grateful to Fr. Anish and the faculty for having me back at Loyola, and I am confident that the values and lessons imparted will continue to serve as a guiding light for generations to come.
It is said that we carry a piece of our childhood with us all our lives and today I came back from Loyola with the most unmatched feeling. Thank you, Loyola High School & Junior College, for an unforgettable day and a walk down memory lane. I wish every student the very best for a fulfilling, fruitful, and fun-filled life ahead.
